Today in Toastmasters I gave my third speech which was about the power of the idea. The idea is such a magical thing. It starts as a small figment in your brain, yet has the capability to change the world.
The telephone for instance. You can sure bet that most people thought Alexander Graham Bell was out of his mind. A device which can connect two people in two separate locations? Mind boggling in the year of 1921. I would also like you to take a second to think about what Mr. Bell had to do in order for this device to come to fruition. Not only crazy looks and resistance, but the fact that he couldn’t simply Google how, where and what this device could become. It took way more than that. Think about inventing a product without the Internet, let alone a telephone.
I bring you to the year 2014. You have an idea, an epic idea. You want to turn your morning cup of coffee into an edible “Coffee Bar” so you can kill two birds with one stone – instant access to coffee & breakfast. Brilliance. Well now you have the power, more power than ever before. Yes – YOU. Access at your fingertips to everything you need to know. From research, to suppliers to platforms to build on and spread your ideas. As a matter of fact check out these college kids who actually DID make this idea happen on Kickstarter, and now have over $20,000 invested into their Coffee Bar.
Now more than ever we have the access to change the world with our ideas in the palm of our hands. So as I noted at the closing of my speech, I leave you with this gift: the power of your idea. Now go do something with it. Check out a clip from my Toastmaster’s speech here!
